A Journey Across Boundaries
June 18 - September 4, 2016
Opening Reception, Saturday June 18th, 6pm to 8pm
During the summer of 2016, Chandler Center for the Arts will be hosting A Journey Across Boundaries, an exhibition curated by artists Gowri Savoor and Angelo Arnold. The show features the work of eleven regional visual artists: Angelo Arnold, Galen Cheney, Jason Galligan-Baldwin, Karen Henderson, Liz Kauffman, Rachel Moore, Gowri Savoor, Jason Swift, Mary Zompetti, in addition to poet and winner of the Vermont Book award 2015, Kerrin McCadden and musician and composer, Evan Premo.
Each of the eleven artists will be addressing the theme of Boundaries through a complement of sculpture, painting, photography, installation, poetry and music. While several of the artists will be addressing emotional boundaries within their personal histories, others will interpret the physical, ecological and geopolitical divisions within our local and global systems.
The issue of Boundaries is both pertinent and topical; the show will bring to focus the ways in which artists understand the invisible and unspoken walls that exist within our environment--complex barriers that shift our perspective, redefine relationships and shape our understanding of the world.
An exhibition opening will take place at the Chandler Art Gallery on Saturday June 18th, 6pm to 8pm and will include a poetry reading by Kerrin McCadden and a live performance by Evan Premo and Mary Bonhag.
A Journey Across Boundaries is curated by Gowri Savoor and Angelo Arnold. Savoor and Arnold are visual artists based in Central Vermont. Arnold works primarily with furniture-inspired anthropomorphic sculpture and received his MFA in Studio Arts/Sculpture from the Ohio State University. Savoor is a visual artist working in sculpture, painting and the Indian art of Rangoli. She has exhibited in national and international exhibitions and believes passionately in the power of participatory, community art events.
