A Closer Look
January 20 through March 3, 2018
A Closer Look, which opens with a reception from 5 - 7 pm on Jan. 20, features the People's Choice Award Recipients from the 2017 Area Artists Show at Chandler Gallery: Valerie Daniel, photographer, Judy Laliberte, painter, and Jo Levasseur, painter. The exhibit will be open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 12-3 pm and by appointment.
VALERIE AUFFRAY DANIEL, of Bethel, VT, has lived, studied and worked in six countries as well as traveled quite extensively. Having been exposed from a young age to exotic and profoundly colorful sights and sounds, she has developed a passion for beauty, art and music.
Since 2014 she has captured glimpses of her world with a Canon 50D DSLR digital camera. Digital photography classes with Kurt Budliger have helped her to broaden her expression of what moves her, brings her great pleasure, and reflects the wonders she finds in life.
JUDY LALIBERTE is a painter working out of her studio in Quechee, Vermont. She works primarily in watercolor and mixed media on paper. Her fluid abstract art is influenced primarily by her observations, experiences, and her love of experimentation.
Judy shows her work primarily in New England, and has shown her work at The Copley Society of Art, Boston, MA, AVA Gallery and Art Center, Lebanon, NH, Shelburne Farms, Shelburne, VT, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH, UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Burlington City Airport, Artistree Gallery, Pomfret, VT, and the Woodstock Gallery, Woodstock, VT, to name a few.
JO LEVASSEUR, of South Royalton, VT, is a native of East Barnard, VT, and mainly works in pastels. Many of her works depict the life and landscapes of Vermont. She studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and the Art Student's League in NYC.
The art of Jo Levasseur is representative, focusing on the natural world. Atmosphere, quality of light and perspective often combine to show depth, and define the topography of a landscape. In her pictures featuring the night sky she strives to show the magnetism of the moon or the drama of the dark landscape. One will certainly feel the mood, sense the awe, or perhaps find serenity while viewing her work.
